Student wins essay contest and bike; slogan to be printed on Cattlemens Kid's Cups.

PETALUMA, CALIF. Date: November 17, 2004 - In August, the Petaluma Cattlemens held a contest called "Writing Round Up," encouraging kids who dine at Cattlemens to write an essay describing why the restaurant is "the best in the west." Incentives were offered for the kids' efforts: a quote from their essay printed on the cup and a new bike. Mitchell Rowan, age 14, of Cotati, Calif. wrote the winning essay, earning his name, location, age and quote on the new edition of Cattlemens Kid's Cups. In addition, a caricature of the Petaluma store's cowboy "Buck" will be displayed alongside the quote. The quote to be printed on each cup demonstrates that Cattlemens is the best in the west as well as everywhere else.

"Cattlemens is not only the best in the west, it's also the best in the east. When you eat there you will always have a feast."

To congratulate Mitchell, Pete Gillham Jr., owner and chairman of Cattlemens, autographed and personally gave the first of the new cups to Mitchell on Nov. 2 at the Petaluma store.

Cattlemens is a casual, western-themed steakhouse chain based in Santa Rosa, California. Founded in 1968 by a father-son team with decades of experience in the cattle business, eleven locations now serve California, Nevada and Arizona. Still family-owned and operated, each location follows the "Cattlemens Code," offering the feel and flavor of the old west, aged and hand-cut beef, the finest ingredients, and old-fashioned western hospitality. Serving generous portions and all-natural Harris Ranch beef, Cattlemens is always in good taste.
